Thank God for the Woodinville Women's Clinic and their holistic view of women's health. I had been feeling quite "off" for a few months when I walked into to see Zora. I was desperate and thought I was going plum crazy. For the first time in my life, I was suffering from anxiety attacks, low energy, moodiness and constipation. After a blood test revealed that my iron was low, Vitamin D was low and I was hypo-Thyroid, Zora put me on natural supplements instead of drugs. I truly appreciated this more natural approach since I had heard about the horrible side effects of strong drugs. Zora also suggested that I see Medina for the Spectracell test. The combination of seeing Zora and Medina changed my life for the better. My Spectracell test results revealed that I had deficiencies in several important nutrients, mostly related to B vitamins. Who knew that nutrients mattered to this degree?! Medina put me on the natural supplements that I needed, and they were very affordable. Within 4 weeks, my levels were back in normal range without the use of any medications. I felt 100% myself again! Medina educated me thoroughly about how certain kinds of deficiencies can lead to anxiety and other awful side effects. These types of deficits can result from pregnancy, common stomach viruses and life stresses that just about all of us experience. We just don't know the toll they are taking on our bodies and how these deficiencies can slowly erode us from the inside out. Women's health is complicated, when taking into account hormones, pregnancy, bodily changes and stress - we need doctors that can look at the whole picture and treat the whole person. The Woodinville Women's clinic is unique in their practice and I hope more clinics take this approach. Thank you!!

Spectracell Laboratories offers a blood test developed by the University of Texas to measure the intracellular function of selected vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other essential micronutrients in your white blood cells. Typically, selected nutrients have been measured in the serum, not the white blood cells. That is effective for creating a snapshot of what your blood levels are at the time your blood was drawn. Using the white blood cells instead of the serum is much more effective because they carry an individual's nutrient history for a period of four to six months. The results obtained uncover deficiencies that standard serum tests may miss.

Nutrient deficiencies can lead to a whole host of health problems including depression, immune system suppression, cancer, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, growth retardation, osteoporosis, hair loss, dermatitis, anemia, neuropathy, anxiety and fatigue, just to name a few!

Because each of us is metabolically and biochemically different, the micronutrient requirements for one person are often different that the requirements of another. Even if you eat a balanced diet, exercise and take a multi-vitamin you may have deficiencies due to your genetic make-up and outside influences, such as toxins and stress.

We are excited to offer this comprehensive test to you. Spectracell has agreed to give this outstanding offer to our patients with little to no out-of-pocket expense (with most PPO health insurance policies). Cash patients and those with HMOs can contact our office for additional information on the cost of this test. Blood is drawn in our office and the results are usually available in three weeks.

The results will be explained to you in detail by our nutritionist. The charge for that visit is $40 and usually lasts about 30 minutes. At that time a treatment plan can be discussed which includes diet modifications, lifestyle changes and possible supplementation to help eliminate any deficiencies.

Correcting deficiencies will improve your health and slow down or stop the progression of chronic disease. You can be retested in six months to see if the deficiencies have been corrected.

Follow this link (link to ready) to review recommendations concerning lab results that need to be corrected, as identified on your results letter from our office.

As a healthcare practitioner, Zora has done extensive research into the field of high-quality supplements. Using supplementation in her practice was not something she took on lightly, and was very excited to learn there are a handful of pharmaceutical grade supplements available, (fully explained in the USANA section) and has chosen a few of these to work with in her practice.

Zora believes that health starts at a cellular level, when our cells are protected and nurtured they then provide us with health and longevity. Threats to our cellular health that can cause damage include the air we breathe (exhaust and environmental pollutants), the water we drink (chlorine, heavy metals such as lead, mercury), and foods we eat that are infused with pesticides and hormones. Maintenance of our cellular health is one of the biggest preventions against degenerative diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke, to name but a few. An important way to maintain our health at a cellular level is to supplement our diets with whole foods and to incorporate a full range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

We all want to look and feel better, and it just makes sense that we maintain our health rather than try to regain it after it's lost. Zora believes that prevention by incorporating nutritional medicine along with adapting healthy lifestyle changes is the key to optimal health and well being. Certainly a mixture of traditional allopathic and complementary modalities can be blended to customize care for every client.

Zora chooses to use USANA as a core line of supplements for the many reasons below. She has personally used the products for the last 3 years and feels that her health has significantly improved.

Each of us has a personal responsibility for our own health. "Health is not just the absence of disease, it is the empowering of our bodies to perform at its optimal level," says Dr. Myron Wentz, Founder of USANA, Inc. We as a society are overworked and undernourished. Dr. Wentz says often that we "live too short and die too long."
Immediately after starting USANA's Healthpak 100, I noticed a significant increase in my energy level, was able to better focus, and my severe PMDD symptoms that were sometimes debilitating have resolved. I feel like my old self again! Thank you Zora, for introducing me to the USANA products!

The TGA is recognized as the world leader in certification. Their supplements (except oil-based products) are in the form of powdered nutrients encapsulated in a vegetarian gel capsule for easy swallowing and fast disintegration and absorption.

Functional medicine is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

Here at the Woodinville Women's Clinic we feel it is important to offer a variety of laboratory screenings, we have chosen to offer BRACA testing and analysis for hereditary breast and ovarian cancers. Myriad makes it easy for you, the client-part of their service includes contacting your insurance carrier and then speaking with you directly about the financial responsibility of the testing. "Inevitable is not my style!" is a statement that sums up the essence of why providers and Myriad work together, so that patients who are at such a high risk have every opportunity in the world to reduce that risk of cancer.

A genetic test for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. These cancers can run in families, and inheriting this gene mutation can put you at an elevated risk. Sometimes these genes have mutations or alterations indicating they don't work as they should and there is a loss of control in cellular growth.

Here are a few facts and figures provided by Myriad Genetic laboratories., Inc:

  • Women with a BRCA mutation have:
    •  A 33-50% risk of developing breast cancer by age 50 and a 56-67% risk by age 70
    •  A 27%-44% chance of developing ovarian cancer by age 70
  • Certain mutations of the BRACA genes are more common in people of Ashkenazi Jewish descent (Central or Eastern European)
  • Half of the women with a hereditary risk of breast and ovarian cancers inherited the risk from their fathers, NOT their mothers.
  • BRCA mutations also increase the risk for other concerns in both men and women, including up to a 6% risk for male breast cancer.

The following link takes you to a quick family history questionnaire, basic information regarding inherited breast and ovarian cancer, and discussion of management options available to women who test positive. There is also a personal story along with a patient video: http://www.myriadtests.com/consumer_home.htm

A genetic test for hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), COLARIS' is a predictive-medicine test for hereditary colorectal and endometrial cancer (hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer, HNPCC). COLARIS' detects disease-causing mutations in three genes, MLH1, MSH2, and MSH6, which are responsible for the majority of HNPCC.

A genetic test for hereditary melanoma, MELARIS' is a predictive-medicine test for inherited susceptibility to melanoma and pancreatic cancer. This test detects inherited mutations in the p16 gene (also called CDKN2A or INK4A), which occur in up to 40% of families with hereditary melanoma. Patient survival is excellent when melanoma is detected at an early stage; however, prognosis is very poor (<15% 5-year survival) when melanoma has spread at the time of diagnosis. Early detection of melanoma is perhaps the best approach to improve outcome.
